The assembly can be a great opportunity to showcase student achievement in a variety of Key Learning Areas (KLAs). The item could incorporate student samples of work from units being completed in class, such as volcanoes created by the students. It could also contain performance of some of the singing and role playing the students are engaged in during class time. Other suggestions include dance performances, skits, plays, poetry recitals and so on.
To maximise student engagement and effectiveness of the assembly, teachers may wish to collaborate with the students to plan an item which integrates the students’ individual interests, strengths and abilities and utilises them to demonstrate the teaching and learning which is taking place in the classroom. Students may also be given different roles according to their interests. For example, some students may prefer to be involved in behind the scenes activities such as script writing or costume design where others would be more inclined to stand on a stage and perform.
